About us?

We are a Faculty that offers a program of law studies that stands out for its timeliness, relevance and social commitment, at the service of justice and based on solid ethical foundations and Christian principles; it is internationally accredited by the Association of Faculties, Schools and Law Institutes of Latin America -AFEIDAL- through its accrediting agency the International Institute of Law Accreditation -IIDEA-, which will allow you to be part of numerous academic activities: international student mobilities, conferences with national and international guests, trainings that enhance the competences of being and should be.

For social service, the Faculty has 35 Bufetes Populares where they will be able to carry out professional internships in the form of legal proceedings in the courts of the Republic, providing advice and support to people who do not have financial resources, under the supervision of lawyers who provide professional support; They can also choose to do internships in justice sector institutions with which the university has inter-institutional agreements (the Constitutional Court, the Supreme Court of Justice, the Human Rights Ombudsman's Office, the Public Prosecutor's Office, the Institute of Public Criminal Defence, the Ministry of Labour, the Attorney General's Office).

In addition to face-to-face classes, it offers a combination of technological tools that are developed through the CANVAS platform, where you can interact with teachers synchronously or asynchronously, enhancing the teaching-learning process.

Mission

To be a Faculty that is recognized for its academic excellence, through the implementation of innovative programs and the specialization of its professors, with the aim of training professionals of the highest academic and ethical level, creating new legal knowledge through its research.

Vision

To train legal professionals with up-to-date knowledge, developing skills and abilities that will enable them to compete successfully in the workplace, committed to the pursuit of the common good in order to strengthen the rule of law, proposing viable alternative solutions to social problems that contribute to the development of the country.

Objectives:

To develop in the students a behavior based on professional ethics, critical of the national context and aware that Law is at the service of society.

To strengthen the students' sense of national identity in order to promote a culture of peace, with full knowledge of the rights and duties that correspond to them as citizens.

To provide students with an in-depth knowledge of Guatemalan procedural law, giving them the theoretical and practical tools to solve specific cases.

To promote interpersonal relations towards a culture of peace through justice, strengthening and valuing national identity, for an intercultural coexistence with full knowledge of the rights and duties that correspond to us as citizens.

To foster in the future professional a sense of responsibility, to act in accordance with morals and ethics, in order to dignify the University that molded them.

To train professionals with a high academic level, preparing them to meet the labor needs of the justice sector, public administration, private initiative and professional practice.

To enable professionals who graduate from the Faculty to participate in the social, political and economic development of the country, generating actions aimed at the establishment and consolidation of the rule of law, for the realization of the common good as the supreme goal.

To encourage graduates to study and specialize in Law through the different post-graduate programs, guiding them in the search for new knowledge in the face of the globalization of education.

Popular Law Firm

What services are offered? The Popular Law Office of the Mariano Gálvez University of Guatemala provides free legal services to people of limited financial means, in civil and/or family cases, common, oral, executive, injunctions, voluntary jurisdiction (only and exclusively through the courts), among others.

You have chosen a school that has been training legal professionals for more than 50 years, whose mission is to provide an education with the highest standards of quality, with a faculty with extensive experience in the subjects it teaches both theoretical and practical, and a program whose curriculum will facilitate your incorporation into the various fields of work, as lawyers in liberal practice, judges, prosecutors, public defenders or providing advice or consulting in the public or private sphere.

Learning methodologies

The Legal and Social Sciences program intertwines the study of law with the social sciences, emphasizing legal interpretation and application in various contexts. Learning is based on case analysis, critical debate, and practice in legal clinics. Argumentative ability and ethical reasoning are cultivated to address issues of social justice. The training is oriented towards social awareness and human development in legal practice. The goal is to train jurists with a comprehensive vision, capable of positively influencing society.
